“This Week in the Market” 

This is technically a Holiday week with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day falling on the weekend. The NYSE will be open all week, but the markets will be closed Monday December 26 and January 2nd. 

 I’d expect volume to be lower than a normal week, however there could still be some window dressing / rebalancing of portfolios and tax loss harvesting during the final 2 weeks of the year.  

We will have a number of economic reports out this week which could affecting the markets including:  

Monday: NAHB Home Builders Index 

Tuesday: Building Permits / Housing Starts 

Wednesday: Consumer Confidence Index – The consumer confidence indicator provides an indication of future developments of households’ consumption and saving, based upon answers regarding their expected financial situation, their sentiment about the general economic situation, unemployment and capability of savings. 

Thursday: Jobless Claims / Real GDP revisions 

Friday: PCE Price Index: The PCE index—is one of the main measures of inflation and consumer spending trends in the U.S. economy.  The good news is that it appears there will be no FED officials speaking this week!
